IDEALS (262-11 to 262-14)

"IDEALS" READINGS
262-11   7th February 1932
262-12   21st February, 1932

262-13   6th March, 1932
262-14   20th March, 1932

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GOD, BE MERCIFUL TO ME!
HELP THOU MY UNBELIEF!
LET ME SEE IN HIM THAT THOU WOULD HAVE ME SEE IN MY FELLOW MAN!
LET ME SEE IN MY BROTHER THAT I SEE IN HIM WHOM I WORSHIP!
(262-11)

The presentation of THE SPIRITUAL BODY
presents to many a variation
in those things as MAKE FOR THE SPIRITUAL LIFE.
Were there added somewhat in this connection,
that as relates THE MENTAL AND SPIRITUAL LIFE
to that of THE CHRIST CONSCIOUSNESS,
as may be HAD IN HIM
through that APPLYING OF SELF
IN ACT, IN THOUGHT,
to those lessons as bring to individuals
THAT
[CHRIST] CONSCIOUSNESS,
then THE GREATER EFFECT may be
in THIS CONNECTION.
(262-11)

In preparing a lesson upon that of HAVING AN IDEAL,
as may be seen from the proper consideration
of the lessons that have gone before,
there must of necessity be ONENESS OF PURPOSE
in A COOPERATIVE MANNER,
which gives then a group A ONE IDEAL.
Though there may be MANY IDEAS
IN THE APPROACH TO THE ONE,
the DIFFERENTATIONS ARE LOST
in THE PURPOSE OF THE IDEAL.
(262-11)

AN IDEAL, then, CANNOT, SHOULD NOT, WILL NOT,
be that THAT IS MAN-MADE,
but MUST BE OF THE SPIRITUAL NATURE
- that has ITS FOUNDATION
IN TRUTH, IN GOD, IN THE GOD-HEAD, that there may be
THE CONTINUAL REACHING OUT of an INDIVIDUAL,
whether APPLIED to the PHYSICAL LIFE,
the MENTAL LIFE, or the SPIRITUAL LIFE.
Knowing that FIRST principle,
that the GIFT OF GOD TO MAN
is an INDIVIDUAL SOUL
that may be ONE WITH HIM,
and that may KNOW ITSLEF
to be ONE WITH HIM
and yet INDIVIDUAL IN ITSELF,
with the ATTRIBUTES OF THE WHOLE,
yet NOT THE WHOLE.
Such must be THE CONCEPT,
must be THE IDEAL,
whether of the IMAGINATIVE,
the MENTAL, the PHYSICAL,
or the SPIRITUAL body of man.
All may ATTAIN TO SUCH AN IDEAL,
yet NEVER BECOME THE IDEAL
- but ONE WITH THE IDEAL,
and such an ONE IS SET IN HIM.
(262-11)

IDEAL SHOULD BE as given, as is SET IN HIM.
See THAT COMING TO PASS
in the LIVES, the HEARTS, the MINDS, the SOULS,
of those THE BODY WORKS WITH,
THE BODY LABORS WITH,
and WORK - WORK!
For the NIGHT COMETH,
and IN HIM WILL BE THAT LIGHT
that GIVES REST UNTO THE SOUL.
(262-11)

As each LIFTS IN THEMSELVES
THAT AS IS THEIR IDEAL,
as EACH MEASURES ANOTHER
- whether a PHYSICAL, a MORAL or a SPIRITUAL ACT
- so MAY SELF MEASURE SELF BY THAT
as is SET AS THE IDEAL IN SELF FOR SELF,
and SEE THE CHRIST CONSCIOUSNESS
RAISED in the HEART, the MIND,
the SOUL OF OTHERS.
(262-11)

As there is APPLIED
in the CONVERSATION,
in the ACTS,
in the THOUGHTS OF SELF
as RESPECTING OTHERS,
and MEASURE then
BY THAT IDEAL
that is SET IN SELF,
BE as PATIENT and as FORGIVING,
and as LONG-SUFFERING
AS HE WAS.
Then there comes that PEACE
that gives UNDERSTANDING.
(262-11)

Put into ACTIVE, PRAYERFUL, WORKING SERVICE,
THAT THOU KNOWEST TO DO day by day.
SEE IN OTHERS SOMETHING as may be GLORIFIED BY HIM,
And SEE IN SELF THAT THOU WOULD CONSECRATE TO HIM.
THINE DAILY ACTS, THINE WORDS, THINE SPEECH
- these will bring that UNDERSTANDING, and the REALIZATION
of THE IDEAL BEING MANIFEST IN THEE, as well as IN OTHERS.
LOOK for the GOOD in EVERYONE.
SPEAK NEITHER EVIL, HARSH, NOR UNKIND, TO ANY.
(262-12)

STUDY that THOU SAYEST, that THOU DOEST,
and RESERVE NOTHING - IN STRENGTH OF BODY OR MIND
- IN SERVICE TO OTHERS,
THAT IS A REFLECTION of THAT HE WOULD HAVE THEE DO,
as THOU KNOWEST HOW.
As was given by Him,
LET THINE WORKS, THINE EFFORTS,
be even as was said by Him
"If ye will not believe me,
YE WILL BELIEVE
for the very WORKS SAKE.
For the things I do bespeak
THAT I BELIEVE I AM!"
(262-12)

Well that an INDIVIDUAL KNOW
that in the ATTAINING OF AN IDEAL
of AN EARTHLY MAKING is SATISFACTION.
And if OF SPIRITUAL MAKING
is OBTAINED ONLY in SPIRITUAL UNDERSTANDING
- which gives CONTENTMENT.
(262-13)

Then BE CONTENT with THAT THOU HAST.
And USE WITH HONOR, PRAISE, GLORY TO THINE IDEAL
THAT THOU HAST, and more and more is given
as there is PROPER USE MADE OF THAT IN HAND.
(262-13)

In the lesson as has been outlined, as given
THERE WOULD COME THE SIGN FOR EACH
AS THEY APPLIED THEMSELVES
IN KNOWING THEIR OWN IDEAL
and HOW [THE IDEAL] IS APPLICABLE
IN THEIR OWN EXPERIENCE.
(262-14)

To some has come in
THE FORM OF TESTS.
(262-14)

In some in the
FORM OF GREATER OPPORTUNITIES.
(262-14)

In others
A VISION OF THOSE FORCES.
(262-14)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The lesson that is prepared on KNOW THYSELF, as we find,
with the minor changes that will come in the preparation, is very good.

The presentation of the spiritual body presents to many
a variation in those things as make for the spiritual life.

Were there added somewhat in this connection, that as relates the mental AND spiritual life
to that of the Christ Consciousness, as may be had in Him through that APPLYING of self
in act, in thought, to those lessons as bring to individuals that consciousness,
then the greater effect may be in this connection.

In preparing a lesson upon that of having an ideal, as may be seen
from the proper consideration of the lessons that have gone before,
there must of necessity be ONENESS of purpose in a cooperative manner,
which GIVES then a group a one ideal.

Though there may be many ideas in the approach to the one,
the differentiations are lost in the purpose of the ideal.

An ideal, then, CANNOT, SHOULD not, WILL not, be that that is man-made,
but must be of the spiritual nature - that has its foundation in Truth, in God, in the God-head,
that there may be the continual reaching out of an individual,
whether applied to the physical life, the mental life, or the spiritual life;

Knowing that FIRST principle, that the gift of God to man is an INDIVIDUAL soul
that may be one WITH Him, and that may know itself to be one with Him
and yet individual in itself, with the attributes OF the whole, yet NOT the whole.

Such must be the concept, must be the ideal, whether of the imaginative, the mental, the physical,
or the spiritual body of man.

All may ATTAIN to such an ideal, yet never become the ideal - but ONE WITH the ideal,
and such an one is set in Him.
--
We have the group as gathered here.
Also that as has been given in WHAT IS THY IDEAL?
Each, as given, should apply that in their daily experience
as has been given in COOPERATION and KNOW THYSELF,
for there comes then to each that as has been set as their ideal.

Many an individual is able, or do express themselves
as to the secular things in life as their ideal
- or idea of a standard.

Have YE chosen that SPIRITUAL ideal?
Are the things in thine own life measured by that ideal?
Are there the continued efforts on thy part to put into practice,
or to count as worthy of self BEING the channel
that may bring a blessing to another?

As has been given, there will come a sign to the group, or to members of same
- will they make the ideal that as is one with Him.

The promise is, as was given of Him;
"For I will bring to remembrance all things whatsoever has been my part with you,
for in such manifestations is my Father glorified in you."
--
As in the cooperation, as in the developments that do necessarily come to each
in applying those things (for they become things, ideas in the application),
as they - the ideas - work upon the activities of each individual,
then as in this the ideal or the standard that each not only measure themselves by
- but see in others
THROUGH that standard that they may worship, that they may honor, in THEIR ideal.

Knowing first all is one.

Then should come the lesson of FAITH,
that is as one of the stepping-stones in balancing self to the labors,
as each applies self in that as they, as individuals and as a group,
set before themselves to work toward;
that that may bring the understanding, that understanding of the source of the good,
or brighten the lives of others through those things that have been builded, are builded, may be builded,
through the application of those things as make up the lessons that are studied;

For in the BEAUTY of service comes the knowledge and understanding that makes the living worthwhile.

Setting aside those things that so easily beset,
looking forward to that mark of the higher calling as is set in Him,
knowing that the greatest service that may be done is the little word here and there,
the kindly thought, the little deeds that make the heart glad,
and the brightness of the Son come in the lives of all.
--
Well that the ideal in the suggestions as given
be that rather of the personal nature,
as INDIVIDUAL, than personality presented in same.

In the lesson as has been outlined, as given there would come the sign for each
as they applied themselves in knowing their OWN ideal
and how same is applicable in their own experience:

To some has come in the form of tests,
that that as is proclaimed, or claimed by them,
must be acted in their own experience,
as to relationships to others.

In some in the form of greater opportunities,
in the manner in which there may be given more and more
of that which will arouse in the inner beings of others
a closer concept of an ideal.

In others a vision of those forces as may manifest
in the activities of their OWN selves towards others,
as well as to those who have experienced
the presence of that consciousness
that His abiding promise is true in this period of their experience.

(Q) Please give a prayer or meditation which the group may hold
in seeking the preparation of this coming lesson on WHAT IS YOUR IDEAL.
(A) GOD, BE MERCIFUL TO ME!
HELP THOU MY UNBELIEF!
LET ME SEE IN HIM THAT THOU WOULD HAVE ME SEE IN MY FELLOW MAN!
LET ME SEE IN MY BROTHER THAT I SEE IN HIM WHOM I WORSHIP!

(Q) As a group are we doing anything that we should not do, or leaving undone anything
that we should be doing in seeking understanding that we may be used in Thy service?
(A) This is a question that each shall answer within their individual lives.
Who has been made a judge?
Who showeth mercy, patience and understanding?
Pray that each may have that light as is necessary for them, as an individual,
as an integral part of the whole group, that would give life, light and understanding to others;
For he that would be patient must show patience with those even that have a DIFFERENT understanding or concept of life.
He that would teach, he that would minister, he that would heal - all likewise must be able to demonstrate in themselves that they would GIVE another;
For, as was given, "As I am in the Father and ye in me, so shall ye know the way, for so IS my Father magnified in the world."
Art thou a channel of blessing to SOMEONE today?
Then that will answer in thine own behalf, that as will give that understanding that enables individuals, the group,
to give to others that light, that awakening, that must be FOUND in Him.
As was given of Him, that the AWAKENING may be done by the words and the acts of individuals;
the increase, the UNDERSTANDING, is God's work!
Expect NOT that to be THINE work, but bringing the OPPORTUNITIES, the awakening, the light, the knowledge
- and GOD gives the increase; for those that are called, those did He predestine.

(Q) [307]: How may I attain to and realize my true ideal?
(A) Study to show thyself approved unto God,
rightly dividing the words of truth, avoiding the appearance of evil.

(Q) In what person, first, second or third, should the lessons be written,
in order that they may best express the truth end help the greater number of people?
(A) First person, I AM!
"I AM the way, I AM the truth, I AM the light."
That as is manifested, that as is experienced in the life of each individual,
is a personal application of that truth as would be imparted unto another.
Hence should be in the first person.

(Q) [2112]: What was meant in my reading when it said I might heal by the "pouring in of the oil"?
[See 2112-1]
(A) That as applied in many instances where the individual understands that individual to be healed needs something concrete, physical,
that REPRESENTS - as the oil of truth, the oil on troubled waters, the oil of understanding, the oil of awakening.
To some prayer means much. To others an awakening must be through their five senses.
ALL are equally dear in the eyes of the Maker.
Be patient.
Endure all things. "I will be all things unto all men that I may there by save the more",
is applicable in this light also.

(Q) [115]: Was there any special word of power given me in my Egyptian period
that would be of help to the class at this time?
(A) As an emissary in this particular experience, the power of PERSISTENCE is MAGNIFIED in the present.
Patience and endurance is a good lesson to teach in the present.

(Q) [379]: How may I attain my ideal?
(A) In each there is, as was given, ever has there been, prepared a way of escape for each and every soul.
To this entity, that of an ideal must be attainable in a concrete manner.
Then little by little, line by line, may the body-consciousness become conscious of the Spirit of the Master
working in and through the acts, the thoughts, the LIFE of the body.
SEE in each individual that they represent of the ideal set by self,
and live the life, the whole concept, of thine own ideal.

(Q) [993]: What should be our true ideal, and how may I reach it?
(A) Ideal should be as given, as is set in Him.
See that COMING to pass in the lives, the hearts, the minds, the souls,
of those the body works with, the body labors with, and work - work!
For the night cometh, and in HIM will be that light that gives rest unto the soul.

(Q) [69]: How may I reach my ideal?
(A) As each lifts in themselves that as is their ideal, as each measures another - whether a physical, a moral or a spiritual act
- so may self measure self by that as is set as the ideal IN self FOR self,
and see the Christ Consciousness raised in the heart, the mind, the soul of others.
Keep before self, "Judge not that ye be not judged, for as ye measure so is it measured again."
That signifies that with the MEASURE ye mete is thy ideal. Let that, then, be in Him.

(Q) [560]: How may I come to the realization of my true ideal?
(A) As there is raised in self more and more the Christ Consciousness does one become free indeed,
and FREE gives that awakening that comes with the realization of the ideal as set
awakening more and more in the hearts, the minds, the souls of others.
Not in longfacedness, not in moral aptitudes that make for shadows
- but free in the love that makes not afraid, that makes for that that would make self dare to do for Him.

(Q) [2125]: How may I come to the realization of my true ideal?
(A) As there is applied in the conversation, in the acts, in the thoughts of self as respecting others,
and measure then by that ideal that is set in self, be as patient and as forgiving,
and as long-suffering as He was.
Then there comes that peace that gives understanding.

(Q) Is there any message for the group at this time?
(A) Is there set in this group that one ideal that has been set,
before the lesson is finished a sign will be given thee.
--
(Q) [303]: Please explain to me how I should proceed in order to attain my true ideal.
(A) As is given, in seeking the Father's face, grace, mercy and peace is added in the seeking.
Know that thou would worship, and self a part of same, seeing in others then
that thou would worship in the Father;
For the prayer was, "May they be one, even as Thou and I are one",
For, as given, a SPIRITUAL INSIGHT brings the SEEING of the best in each life.
There is good in all, for they ARE of the Father, and have been bought with the price,
even of the Son, in that flesh may know the GLORY of the Father that may be manifested even in thee!

(Q) What can we do as individuals and as a group that we may come to a oneness of purpose,
in a cooperative manner, which will then give the group a one IDEAL?
(A) This must be found in the Father,
For "Ye I have chosen, as ye have chosen me.
He I have called, him did I also predestine and they hear my voice, and ANSWER by MY name."
In that name alone may the CALLING and ELECTION be sure; presenting selves, each,
in a way and manner that is holy and acceptable unto THEE,
according to thine OWN understanding, doing each day
that as thou knowest is in accord with that ideal,
and the WAY is shown thee!
Be not over hasty in word or deed, for it IS line upon line, here a little, there a little;
For it is the LITTLE leaven that leaveneth the whole lump,
And such compared He to the KINGDOM of God.
The kingdom, then, is within.
Go. Do.
That as I have shown thee, so do ye, and there will be peace, harmony,
understanding, light, that saves - even unto the end.

(Q) [993]: What would be the most important work for the group or individual to do at this time,
that would help us to attain the ideal as is set in Him?
(A) Let each show forth in their own way the manifesting of His love day by day.
"A new commandment (said He) give I unto you: Love one another."
Even as ye would have spoken of you, so speak of one another.
In this manner may the greater work, may the greater blessing, come to one and all.
BE PATIENT, and SEE the glory of God!

(Q) In the reading of Feb. 7th, in Knowing Self, please explain what was meant by
"work, work! for the night is coming, and in Him will be that Light that gives rest unto the soul"?
(A) In this is seen that as was expressed by Him.
"Behold the fields are white unto the harvest, but the laborers are few."
Ye have signified the willingness to be a laborer with Him.
Then work, work!
For the night, for the shades of those things that bring doubt, darkness, dissimilitude,
will come - unless one is busy with that they KNOW to do;
but with the labor comes that rest as promised in Him.

(Q) [404]: How may I best attain to that ideal as is set in Him?
(A) Put into active, prayerful, working service, that thou knowest to do day by day.
See in others something as may be glorified by Him,
And see in self that thou would consecrate to Him.
Thine daily acts, thine words, thine speech - these will bring that understanding,
and the realization of the ideal BEING manifest in thee, as WELL as in others.
Look for the GOOD in EVERYONE.
Speak neither evil, harsh, nor unkind, to any.

(Q) Please explain what is meant by the Godhead.
(A) That as from which the impulse flows, or returns to.
The beginning - the end - of all.

(Q) How may I increase my faith?
(A) Use that thou hast in hand, has been the command from the beginning, will be unto the end,
as to how to increase faith.
Faith, the substance of things hoped for, evidences of things unseen.
Using that known brings those attunements, those emoluments in every form,
that makes for CREATIVE Forces in themselves - which is, must be, the basis of faith.

(Q) [288]: Just how is it meant that I should give of my best to Him?
In what manner may I do that?
(A) Study that thou sayest, that thou doest, and reserve NOTHING
- in strength of body or mind - in service to others,
THAT IS a reflection of that He would have thee do, as thou knowest how.
As was given by Him, let thine works, thine efforts, be even as was said by Him
- "If ye will not believe me, ye WILL believe for the very works sake
- For the things I do bespeak THAT I believe I AM!"

(Q) I hold in my hand an outline of the lesson on WHAT IS YOUR IDEAL? Advise us as to the expansion of this.
(A) Insofar as each has contributed their portion, then, in the joining of each link let these be in the same manner
or temperament of thought, that there are no stumbling stones between the truths as are presented by each individual,
that there may be unison,
that there may be oneness of purpose,
that there may be wholehearted cooperation by all to whom same may be presented.

Let each individual, themselves, apply in their own daily life that they have contributed
toward the awakening of someone through THEIR thought.
So does the lesson become a LIVING example known and read of men.
So will the lessons, the studies, be given a soul, with life,
that may live in the hearts and minds of others.
Beautiful truths without personal application by the one presenting them
is indeed casting pearls to swine, and will turn again to its own wallow.

In the outline, well has been much of that prepared.
Let each know and feel, understand, that same is a part of them.
Unless same IS a part of them, they have little or no part in same;

For, as has been given, many are called but few have answered.
The harvest indeed is ripe, the laborers are few!
The lords have called, do call, for laborers in His vineyard.
WHO will work today?
He that has seen a vision of the love of Him that has been set as thine example, as thine ideal.
These founded in those that are of man's making MUST come to naught!
With the cooperation of the spirit of truth it is MADE alive in Him,
even as the overcoming of death itself through the applying of self to His will.
Not MY will but thine, O Lord, be done in me!
As the meditations should be, in the preparation of faith in self, in God, in thy ideal:
CREATE IN ME A PURE HEART [Ps. 51:10] O GOD!
OPEN THOU MINE HEART TO THE FAITH
THOU HAST IMPLANTED IN ALL THAT SEEK THY FACE!
HELP THOU MINE UNBELIEF [Mark 9:24] IN MY GOD, IN MY NEIGHBOR, IN MYSELF!

(Q) Regarding the questions on the lesson by individuals: [2124] In what way may I best attain my ideal?
(A) Well that an individual know that in the ATTAINING of an ideal of an earthly making
is satisfaction, and if of spiritual making is obtained only in SPIRITUAL understanding
- which gives contentment.
Then be content with that thou hast, and use with honor, praise, glory TO thine ideal
that thou hast, and more and more is given as there is proper use made of that in hand;
For, as was given by the Master of masters,
"The kingdom is likened unto a man that making a journey called his servants.
To one gave five talents, to another two talents, to another one talent.
As they applied themselves, so did they obtain that NOT as favor, but as understanding
- and so rewarded, as called to ACCOUNT for that held in hand.
So, obtaining the ideal is making use - spiritual use, first.
For 'Seek first the kingdom and all these things are added unto you.'" [262-17.]

(Q) [[69]'s husband]: In what way may I best attain my ideal?
(A) In the applying of self day by day in every way, that thou KNOWEST,
that makes a personal application of that thou knowest to do,
without questioning of the morrow;
For the MORROW has ITS evils and its goods, sufficient unto self.
Today is!
Use that thou hast in hand.
So does the awakening come.
Even as called by God to lead a peoples, as was Moses, a shepherd and the flocks in Moab.
Use that thou hast in hand, for the GROUND whereon thou standest is holy!
Do THOU likewise! Even as Ram, even as Phares [?] or Tama [?],
each under their OWN vine and fig tree, learned first that opening self
to be a channel of the LIVING forces, not the dead past
- nor that that makes afraid,
but THY will, O God, be done IN ME
- USE ME as THOU seest fit! FIT me for THINE own!

(Q) From Compilers: Are we submitting the paper "Present World Conditions"
for publication in the manner we should? If not, please offer suggestions.
(A) Do with might what thine hands find to do, through the channels that have been set before thee;
knowing that many minds have many ideas - and ALL are not of thine own channel,
yet give each the opportunity in THEIR RESPECTIVE place.
"Woe unto thee, Chorazin!
Woe unto thee, Bethsaida!
For if the mighty works that have been in THEE
had been done in Sodom and Gomorrah,
they would have repented in sackcloth and ashes."
How MANY of the Group have repented,
or been in sackcloth and ashes?
[See also 281-5]
How are such cast out?
Why could not we, who have been endued with THINE own power?
FEAR has crept in!
Ye have neglected to pray.
Ye have neglected to fast.
Keep that as is given, and parade nor flaunt not that as given,
but know that there is need for an awakening and it comes.
