STUDY GROUP WORK
(262-100, 262-101)

"STUDY GROUP WORK" READINGS
262-100   13th of September, 1936
262-101   4th of October, 1936

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KNOW that the ACTIVITIES of the ASSOCIATION
are as to THE WORK or SERVICE of EACH INDIVIDUAL
- A GROWTH.
(262-100)

As TRUTH,
As KNOWLEDGE,
As WISDOM,
As LOVE
IS in the EXPERIENCE
of THOSE that SEEK to KNOW the WAY.
So should be those ACTIVITIES.
(262-100)

But DO NOT ALLOW THESE
to become other than
SUPPLEMENTARY AIDS to INDIVIDUALS
in their PREPARATION for SERVICE
in their OWN SELECTED MANNER.
That is, DO NOT BECOME a CISM, an ISM,
LAYING DOWN LAWS
as to the MORALS
or as to ANY SET RULES.
(262-100)

For THOSE as have been set HAVE ONE
- THE CHRIST!
(262-100)

Let those, THOSE MANNERS be, then,
so that - whether these be
the Parthenians, the Jews, the Catholics,
the Protestants, the atheists or the agnostics
- ALL WILL BE SEEKERS FOR TRUTH.
And SEEKING to KNOW
the INDIVIDUAL RELATIONSHIP to FATHER-GOD
and the RELATIONSHIP to THE FELLOW MAN.
(262-100)

These should be the BURDENS
and these then find only those ACTIVITIES that
CORRELATE DENOMINATIONS,
CORRELATE CISMS,
CORRELATE the THOUGHTS
FOR A GREATER SERVICE FOR THE FELLOW MAN.
For in same, as has been the theme throughout the lessons,
"As ye do it unto the least of thy brethren, ye do it unto thy Maker."
(262-100)

(Q) Parallel material for study group work.

(A) The Bible is the best parallel,
especially the admonition by Moses
after he had finished all of his own egotism
and had come to realize
that there was not to be the experience in self
for the enjoying of that as had been builded,
owing to that weakness of selfishness.

Also the great leader.
That's the last chapters of Deuteronomy, of 30th on.

Also the study of Joshua, not only as the soldier
but rather as the leader, as the commander
that would give as few,
"Let others do as they may,
but for me and my house
we will serve a living God."

Then the Psalms, especially the 1st, the 2nd,
the 24th, the 91st, the 23rd, the 67th, the 150th.
All of these become as portions of THIS part of parallel work.

Then all of those that are NOW being prepared
for presentation each Sunday upon the radio.

Also James [William James], Hudson [Thomson J. Hudson],
the research upon Palladino [Eusapia Palladino]
also the findings of various individuals
as have studied into individual interpretations;

these should be part of parallel work.

Do not leave out those, to be sure,
of the 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th chapters of John,
of 3rd John, of Jude, of Revelations.
(262-100)

The IDEALS and the PURPOSES are
that this Group may in some manner
AID THOSE SEEKING TO KNOW
THEIR RELATIONSHIP TO THEIR CREATOR,
and the manner of EXPRESSING or MANIFESTING same
in THEIR DEALINGS with THEIR FELLOW MAN.
(262-101)

And that THE COURSE as may be presented in this outline,
that has been USED BY OTHERS
may be used
as A MANNER or WAY or MEANS
for this PREPARATION, for this UNDERSTANDING.
And NOT as that they as individuals become teachers, leaders, ministers
or what not FOR THE ASSOCIATION
BUT FOR THEMSELVES  and FOR THEIR GOD!

If THE STUDY with this leads them TO THAT, WELL - but dictate not.
(262-101)

But how few have FOUND or KNOW
THEIR RELATIONSHIPS TO CREATIVE FORCES

as may MANIFEST THROUGH THEM as individuals!
As has been presented to those
who have used these outlines

to KNOW their MAKER, their SAVIOR, their SELVES,
their BROTHER, THE BETTER!

(262-101)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes, we have the work of the Association for Research & Enlightenment, Incorporated,
and that phase of same as may be presented through the Study Group Work,
with those as individuals and as a group as gathered here.

In considering first the selection of teachers, leaders, helpers, aiders,
in the Study Group work, make haste slowly.

For it is not by might nor by power but by "My Spirit" saith the Lord of hosts.

As has been given oft in considering the work of the Association,
and this applies to each phase of its activity, first to the individual.

As each individual in the Group that has added to those preparations
for a study group course HAS allied and does apply those truths
in his or her OWN life, so may that individual or any individual
- whether it be two or ten that would select or choose or pray for
or pray with others that were seeking some manner,
some way of expression - HOPE to attain to that which will be as the lessons
have purported and do purport to be - living truths in the minds, the hearts, the lives,
the DAILY life of individuals seeking - through the study of themselves
and their relationship to their Creator and their fellow man
- to make for those conditions, those manners in which same may be presented.

Hence the burden of the preparation, then, lies with those that HAVE prepared,
do prepare, the study group lessons.

As for that manner of seeking a selective group or individual members of the Association
in various spheres, various walks of activity, do not choose;
Let THEM choose!
Invite each individual who is, who has been a member of the Association
to become a part of such a group as would prepare themselves
to be channels of blessings for others in their finding THEIR relationship to their Creator,
their fellow man, in their respective spheres.

This as we would find would be well then:

Outline, from the Manual, Lessons, that which is to be presented.
And this is the burden of the whole outline:
Those that would seek to know better their relationships to the Creative Forces
that manifest in and through them from spiritual (not spirit, but SPIRITUAL) sources,
and their relationships to their fellow man. That would be well for a beginning.
--
In considering the outline, as we find,
the ideals and the purpose of the Association for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.,
as are set forth should be more closely followed.

There should be first, as has been indicated,
the preparation of an invitation for each and every member
that has been and that is of every nature and character,
but in the preparation of such invitation
consider their own development,
their own desires in relationship
to the ideals and purposes of the Association.

Hence it should be rather as in THIS line,
through the Study Group Committee,
Esther Wynne and Hugh Lynn Cayce, OF the Association:

Presenting then that which has been found helpful in those Study Groups
that have used or prepared the lessons for same.

That the ideals and the purposes are that this Group
may in some manner aid those seeking
to know THEIR relationship to their Creator,
and the manner of expressing or manifesting same
in their dealings with their fellow man.

And that the course as may be presented in this outline,
that has been used by others may be used
as a manner or way or means
for this preparation,
for this understanding.
And not as that they as individuals become teachers, leaders, ministers
or what not for the Association but for themselves and for THEIR God!
If the study with this leads them TO that, WELL - but dictate not.

For ye have Jew, Parthenian, Greek, and those of every cult,
and they each have their ideal.

But how few have found or know THEIR relationships to Creative Forces
as may manifest through them as individuals!
As has been presented to those who have used these outlines
to know THEIR Maker, their Savior, their selves, their brother, the better!

(Q) Each prospective teacher would be asked to study the following:
1. Teacher's Manual.
2. Selected Bible readings as suggested through this channel from time to time.
3. Lessons (1st Series).
4. Oneness of All Force, Meditation - (simple and complete forms) - Atlantis.
5. Selected books recommended in Manual - Hudson, James, and others.
6. Correspondence with Esther Wynne.
Comment on this program and make suggestions if needed.
[See 262-100]
(A) This as has been outlined, as has just been given, is well;
but do not SELECT your group!
Let THEM select THEMSELVES and let it be a letter to each
and every member that has been and is, of ANY nature and character!

(Q) Any other suggestions for preparing teachers and leaders for group work?
(A) You'll have your hands full if you'll do this;
not as individuals but as a group AND as individuals!
Then let there be selected, given a period, a definite period 15th of October
- when all must be IN that would choose to become a part of a group
for preparations, see, for the study.
THEN have the week, two weeks, month or six months of prayer.

(Q) Give suggestions for additions, changes or corrections in Teacher's Manual,
a copy of which I hold in my hand. [See 262-100]
(A) This is too big a job to correct all of this!
This should be edited first, then corrections made.

(Q) Any suggestions for additional subjects?
(A) Enlarging upon those that have been set here would be preferable to making additional ones in the present.
For let this be ever:
Know that the activities of the Association are - as to the work or service of each individual - a growth;
as truth, as knowledge, as wisdom, as love IS in the experience of those that seek to know the way.

So should be those activities.
But DO NOT allow these to become other than supplementary aids to individuals in their preparation for service
in their OWN selected manner; that is, do not become a cism, an ism, laying down laws as to the morals
or as to any set rules.

For those as have been set have ONE - the Christ!
Let those, those manners be, then, so that - whether these be the Parthenians, the Jews, the Catholics,
the Protestants, the atheists or the agnostics - all will be seekers for truth,
and seeking to know the INDIVIDUAL relationship to Father-God
and the relationship to the fellow man.

These should be the burdens and these then find only those activities that correlate denominations,
correlate the cisms, correlate the thoughts for a greater service for the fellow man;

For in same, as has been the theme throughout the lessons,
"As ye do it unto the least of thy brethren, ye do it unto thy Maker."

Then all of those that are NOW being prepared for presentation each Sunday upon the radio.
Also James [William James], Hudson [Thomson J. Hudson],
the research upon Palladino [Eusapia Palladino]
also the findings of various individuals as have studied into individual interpretations;
these should be part of parallel work.

Do not leave out those, to be sure,
of the 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th chapters of John,
of 3rd John, of Jude, of Revelations.

(Q) Preparation of a simplified paper on meditation which will be studied for six months
by a new student. Comment on this.
(A) This is very well, but this is a natural procedure.
If you will pray with - which you will have some 16 or 18 in the group
- for 6 mos. the meditation will be there, in the experience of those 16!

(Q) Comment and give suggestions on studies of meditation now being made by Norfolk Group.
(A) These are very good but add to same six months every day a given period for one hour,
and it will be there!
Many will seek and know.
Do not seek to know the experience other than thy relationship to thy Maker,
thy relationship to thy brother.

(Q) What is the best time for that hour?
(A) Either 11 to 12 in the day or 11 to 12 in the evening, or the best time is 2 to 3 in the morning!
[See 601-11, Par. R9, R10 in re group joining to pray at 2 A.M. for six months.]

(Q) Expansion of present paper on meditation;
especially by additions of examples and experiences.
Comment.

(A) This as has been given.
Let's leave this until the experience of these has PREPARED individuals.
As has been given, make haste slowly!

(Q) A study of the phenomena as manifest through Edgar Cayce.
(A) These are very well, as it should be in others.

Study that rather as manifested through the Christ.

Study
what happened when the water turned to wine,
what happened when He took her by the hand and lifted her up,
what happened when He walked to His disciples upon the sea,
what happened when He called Lazarus,
what happened in the garden when His disciples
- even His closest friends - slept while He fought with self;
what happened on the Cross when He commended His mother to John,
what happened when He spoke to Mary Magdalene;
what happened when He spoke to Thomas, to the other disciples;
what happened when He arose, "Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel."
What was that gospel?

Not much that is being given so oft over and over.
For He combined it all into one,
"Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, thy mind, thy soul; thy neighbor as thyself."
For this is the WHOLE law the WHOLE law.

Hence ye would study to show thyself approved unto thy concept of thy God.
What IS thy God?
Let each answer that within self.
What IS thy God?
Where is He,
what is He?
Then ye may find yourselves lacking in much.
How personal is He?
Not as Moses painted a God of wrath;
not as David painted a God that would fight thine enemies;
but as the Christ - the Father of love, of mercy, of justice.

And man meets it in himself!
How CAN it be then that ye do not understand God loves you,
why do you suffer?
It is mercy, it is justice to thy soul!

For those things that are cares of the flesh and of the earth
cannot inherit eternal life.
Hence life alters, life changes in the experiences of individuals
through their sojourns in the earth, and thus ye learn thy lessons,
even as He; for though He were the Son, though ye are His sons and daughters,
yet must YE learn obedience through the things that YE suffer.

For ye having partaken of SIN, not IN Adam but AS Adam must as the new Adam
learn that God is merciful, is love, is justice, is patience, is long-suffering, is brotherly love;

For these are the law, not OF the law but THE law.
And the law is love and the law is God.
The law is not individual;
YE make individual application of same in that ye are His sons, His daughters,
ye are seeking the way.

Then that ye give to others, that ye have;
that ye have spent ye never have;
that ye would save you have already lost.
--
(Q) What explanation should be given regarding meditation
for those who desire to join in the hour meditation from 2 to 3?
Give an affirmation if needed.
(A) As the paper or data upon meditation, as has been given,
is to be a part of that to be sent each individual,
then in the beginning this would be rather as a prayer,
as a oneness of purpose, desire
on the part of each that may take part.

While they each may present their own petition in this way or that way,
let it be rather as He gave,
"When ye pray, pray in THIS manner."
Let that be for the beginnings.
And then let there be rather the growth of this
as may be presented through these channels
if so sought as the developments progress.

For if they each that join are sincere in seeking
to know their relationship to the Creative Forces,
that they may know themselves the better,
they WILL become seekers.

And as has been given from the beginning,
they that seek may find.

(Q) For how long should this hour meditation period be observed?
(A) Each in their own way, but at least thirty minutes or the hour.

(Q) For how long at a period?
(A) How long has it been given? Six months or a year?
How long does it become necessary?
Some will want to continue, some will be through in a few days;
for it will be as the sower going forth to sow.

(Q) Consider the preparation of parallel pamphlets covering such subjects
as follow for 30 minute parallel study of same for each group period:
Dreams, Auras, Mental Telepathy and Power of Thought, Numerology -
(A) (Interrupting) Leave off.

(Q) (Continuing) Astrology -
(A) Leave off.

(Q) (Continuing) Palmistry -
(A) Leave off.

(Q) (Continuing) Spiritualism, Spiritual Healing.
Comment on this plan and suggest other subjects or indicate any
that should be omitted during period of first twelve lessons.
(A) Those as indicated leave off.
Those additions that may be made may arise from questions naturally arising
upon the various subjects that are being treated.
For this will not be a one-man job,
nor the two that have set themselves in order!
There will be many others necessary to handle it,
if handled properly!

(Q) Would it be wise to undertake in groups comparative studies of isms and philosophies
as Yogi, Rosicrucianism, etc. Comment and suggest.
The idea would be to point out good points, not to find differences.
(A) This is preparation rather of individuals.
Hence comparative studies, isms, cisms, Yogi philosophies and all
would become a part of the preparation.
For this will lead the individuals who join as a group
to become missionaries, emissaries for something!
For the world, for the people are seeking
- seeking oft they know not what.
Ye that have begun, then become greater channels,
and ye will find that as has been given
as to what portions of this or that land ye will become
the more efficient in meeting the problems
of those in those particular portions of the land.

(Q) Any other suggestions regarding parallel work in groups?
(A) This is getting the cart before the horse, and may become confusing.
Remember that you have begun for the PREPARATION of groups,
and you haven't gotten to the groups yet!

(Q) Comment on the proposal to prepare a small pamphlet for general distribution
on the Purposes of Group Work. Give suggestions for this if advisable.
(A) This SHOULD be short enough to be in the letter that is to be sent to each
and every old member, new member, present member of every nature - as has been suggested.

(Q) Please interpret the dreams had by [540] of 2638 Harrell Ave., Norfolk, Va., on Aug. 27 & 28th
regarding the blessing that could come to Study Groups - directed to Esther Wynne.
(A) This is as a vision of that which might or could come,
or is what may be called the etheric activity of the proposed work
that may be made a mental and material expression in material relationships.

(Q) Give advice and counsel for direction of the following groups: Group #2 [397]:
(A) As has been indicated, the type of data
and of study that would be the more comprehensible,
the more sought for, and that they should follow.
This then, rather than becoming - for this particular group
- as a routine or as rote will offer for its membership a study
of those phases of experience that become more acceptable
in their own relationships.
For unless every phase of human experience is answered in the life of the Christ,
He is not their guide nor their light, nor their way.
But that phase of the activities of individuals should be kept
in that as has been given. We do not find the natures of any have changed.

(Q) Group #3 [473]:
(A) This should be rather the studies that make for the answering of those problems
that have become the stumblingblocks in the ways of denominationalism, schisms, cults and the like.
For these seek to find an answer for each of these.
Do not study their differences but rather their correlating of those activities
in each as pertain to the tenets or lessons or truths
(dependent upon the manner of presentation as to the term)
as given through the lessons as compared with that of Jesus.
And then the lessons from each faultfinder.

(Q) Group #7 [792]:
(A) Practical application of the tenets that are set forth by the lessons
in the EXPERIENCES OF each member of the group.
For in this group practicality and NOT mere theory must be the answer for each individual.

(Q) Group #6:
(A) This is a new combination, a new seeking, and quite a divided one at present.
Hence the ideals of presenting the purposes of the group work
and the lessons as presented should be rather in that line of knowledge
as taught in Knowledge; Wisdom as may be presented in that as given,
"First seek ye to know God and then the rest will be added in its proper order";
and as to how those suggestions, those experiences of those that have prepared
such lessons may apply in the individual experience of each of those studying or applying same.
This, to be sure, will make for the lives of many of Group #1 to be held up as patterns.
And how some will find the light shining through without any shadow,
and others very shadowy.
But these are needed for those as represent or present Group Six in the present,
for these seek - as the number indicates - to know WHY people think as they do!

(Q) Any suggestions for handling the introductory material
for the Virginia Beach Group?

(A) The preparations as we find that are being made in the mind, in the actions of those
that may present themselves - first the approach from the varied angles
and then as to what has been done.
For in those periods of the activities there will be many questions as to what the Association
and the Study Groups have done and are doing ABOUT making known
that they have found helpful in their experience.
Then the preparation would be not only of those authors, writers, lecturers or speakers
that may be presented, but as to how many of the questions that are treated
by the individual author are answered in the experiences of individuals
who have sought or who do seek daily the information through those channels
that the individual presents.

(Q) Any advice and counsel to Esther Wynne
at this time regarding Group Work?

(A) Again we would give that as has been given.
Ye have been called, ye have chosen, ye are worthy.
Just be faithful.

(Q) Any other suggestions regarding group activity?
(A) As has been given regarding the activities of Group One,
there falls - with the opening of the proposal to assist and aid others
- a greater service that may be rendered.
Let all count themselves not in themselves worthy
but through the grace and the mercy and the glory
and the promise of thy Brother, the Christ,
ye CAN accomplish all.
